List of International-Themed Organizations at the University of Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma offers a myriad of organizations for its students with regard to background, language, and involvement in international affairs. Following is a list (with links) of those clubs and organizations on campus with a short description of their charter at OU. AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL     As the OU chapter of Amnesty International, we are dedicated to promoting the impartial protection of human rights by providing opportunities for education and discussion to encourage awareness and understanding of human rights violations committed both internationally and domestically, meeting regularly to write letters and organize actions on behalf of human rights violations, and supporting organizations that improve the quality of life in our community.


ARAB STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The OU Arab Student Association is a multi-cultural organization representing students from 12 Arab Countries and the U.S. Our goal is to bridge the Arab and American cultures through interaction with students and through events that reflect our history and culture. The ASA is dedicated to promoting the cultural and political life of the Arab world through productive dialogue and expression. It is our strong feeling that our goal here at OU is to act as ambassadors of our countries to build awareness amongst students, and the university as a whole. We also act to bring our culture and traditions to the campus.


ARASHI TAIKO     Arashi Taiko is a group of students dedicated to playing traditional Japanese drums and performing at various OU functions. Through playing Taiko drums the group hopes to display Japanese culture and promote Japanese awareness.


ASSOCIATION FRIENDS OF VENEZUELA     The purpose of this organization is to strengthen the bonds among the Venezuelan students and anybody willing to share our rich values and beliefs as well as to represent our cultural legacy and national identity at the University of Oklahoma.


BACCANO (ITALIAN CLUB)     To foster interest in Italian culture and to provide a forum in which the use of the Italian language is encouraged.


BACKPACKS FOR BURUNDI     The purpose of Backpacks for Burundi is to be dedicated to providing financial aid and resources to the impoverished indigenous youth of Burundi, the Batwa, to support their educational endeavors.


BAHAI ASSOCIATION     To provide an opportunity for Bahai’s and friends to gather and participate in activities together on campus and to provide the OU campus with information on the Bahai Faith.


BOLIVIAN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION     Aims to enrich the university culturally and to allow the University community to know and understand the educational opportunities in Bolivian universities.


COLUMBIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The purpose of COLSA is to unite, support, and promote Colombian culture at the University of Oklahoma.


EUROPEAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To represent and assist the European students on campus while creating European and multicultural awareness at the University of Oklahoma To encourage friendship among students from different cultural backgrounds.


FRENCH & FRANCOPHONE STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The French & Francophone Student Association should be the voice of the French and Francophone community at the University of Oklahoma. It should organize and facilitate various intercultural, social, and intramural events among the international organizations and other University of Oklahoma organizations.


FRENCH CLUB    To provide activities that promotes the advancement of the French language and culture.


GERMAN CLUB     To provide activities that promote the advancement of the German language and culture at the University.


HEBREW CLUB     To provide a group environment in which students of the Hebrew language can further their education, to connect members to other speakers of the Hebrew language, and to promote awareness and understanding of the cultures of Hebrew speakers.


HILLEL JEWISH STUDENT ORGANIZATION     Shall provide religious, cultural, socialand communal service activities and opportunities for its membership. Shall set a positive tone of leadership, Jewish values and professionalism; shall encourage respect and joy for Jewish religious celebrations, practices and individual growth, and shall set a positive tone of respect for Jewish religious deiversity.


HINDU STUDENT COUNCIL     The purpose of Hindu Student Council is to create a conducive atmosphere for following and learning sanatana dharma on campus.


HISPANIC AMERICAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To serve the university and surrounding communities by emphasizing the culture, heritage, language, and traditions of, but not limited to, the Hispanic or Latino community at OU. HASA is also to support activities and programs that will enhance educational, employment and social equality for hispanics by motivating and counseling them.


INDIA STUDENT ORGANIZATION     To celebrate Indian culture, traditions, and values by means of educational, cultural and social events, activities and programs. In addition, to provide community service and interaction with other student organizations.


INDONESIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To assist and be the voice of students in general, and especially of Indonesian students at OU.


IRANIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     Present a colorful demonstration of Iranian culture, art, history, literature, music, and cuisine to the OU campus and help foster friendship among different cultural groups.


JAPANESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To promote learning and sharing of Japanese culture; to bring out better self identity through cultural interactions; and increase mutual cooperation and information exchange.


KOREAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The purpose of the Korean Student Association is: 1) Introduce Korean cultures to people who are interested 2) Help new students settle down in the University of Oklahoma 3) Host annual events such as welcome party, culture nights, etc.


LEBANESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To unite, support and promote Lebanese culture on the campus. The organization will also provide assistance to current and new international and exchange students


LINGUISTICS CLUB     To promote the study of Linguistics and to promote a forum for students to pursue their linguistic interest.


MALAYSIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To look after the well-being and interests of the members of the association. To promote cultural exchanges and serve as the member of the International Advisory Committee of the University of Oklahoma and cooperate with other student organizations in the United States of America.


MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The purpose of MSA shall be to serve God, the University campus, and the local community in the best way possible through the principles laid out in the Quran, Hadith, and Summah (authentic sayings and example of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). MSA will strive to serve in all aspects of life, to promote friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslim students at OU. In doing so a greater net solidarity will be achieved through the interpersonal and organizational affiliations that this MSA shall foster.


NEPALI STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To promote cultural and social integration and interaction. To uplift international goodwill and friendship.


OKLAHOMA UNDERGRADUATE INDIA SOCIETY     To promote an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance among undergraduate Indian students and students from other countries through educational and social events.


OUR EARTH     The purpose of the organization shall be the education of the University of Oklahoma community in environmental issues of all types affecting the campus community, state, nation, and world, and active participation of members in activities that relate to such issues.


PAN AMERICAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To enrich the university community by emphasizing the culture, heritage, language and traditions of Pan American countries and cultures.


RUSSIAN SPEAKING STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To create a community of Russian speaking members attending OU. All others interested in the Russian speaking cultures are also welcome.


SOONERS FOR ISRAEL     Sooners for Israel is OU's pro-Israel voice. We work with students and elected officials for a strong US-Israel relationship.


SOONERS FOR PEACE IN PALESTINE     To spread awareness, knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the Palestine-Israel conflict. It shall work toward opening dialogue between all interested parties and contribute to a just resolutions of the conflict.


SRI LANKAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To look after the well being and interest of the members of the association. To share information about Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan culture. To promote cultural exchanges and to cooperate with other student organizations.


STUDENT ASSOCIATION OF BANGLADESH     To promote goodwill, friendship and understanding among the students of OU, to present and protect the life and culture of Bangladesh, and to extend all possible assistance to Bangladeshis as and when required.


STUDENTS FOR ACTION IN DARFUR     The purpose of this organization is to promote education and advocacy. This will be accomplished through film showings, presentations, speak-ins, and other events.


TAIWANESE STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The purpose of this organization shall be to enrich the university community by emphasizing the culture, heritage, language, and traditions of the Taiwanese and to expose the Taiwanese to American culture.


THE ARABIC CLUB     To provide a forum for learners interested in broadening their understanding of the Arabic language through activities and interaction outside of the formal classroom framework.


THE ENGLISH CLUB     To promote fellowship and appreciation for literary pursuits at OU.


THE THAI STUDENT ASSOCIATION     To serve as the representative of Thai students at the University of Oklahoma, and as the network providing supports and essential information for all OU Thai students.


TURKISH STUDENT ASSOCIATION     The purpose of the TSA is to integrate the Turkish Community in Norman, to develop the awareness of the contemporary Turkish world and its culture, and to promote Turkey.
