ELIGIBILITY
• Members of the Executive Committee may not serve as section officers.
They may, however, deliver papers.
• Regular/Allied section chairs may deliver a paper, but only in a section
other than their own. Regular/Allied section secretaries and special session
chairs may deliver papers in their own session.
• No individual may deliver more than one paper or chair more than one
session at any SCMLA meeting.
• Papers are NOT to be read in sessions when panelists do not attend the
convention unless some special circumstance prevented the panelist from attending.
*Section chairs are responsible for notifying the SCMLA office in writing
of any changes to their panels.

As state funding for higher education has lessened, new recruitments in
English and Foreign Languages Departments have become harder to come by,
and departmental renewal is made more difficult. This panel solicits short
papers that discuss ways for department chairs to develop emotional intelligence
for “growing” an in-place faculty that senses a shared investment
in the department. Emphasis should be on developing strategies for sharing
workload and service responsibilities to create a sense of ownership and
pride in the department.
