LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS

Living accommodations are not arranged for you as a result of your admission. Therefore, you must make your own arrangements. If you are a single freshman student under the age of 20 by the beginning of classes or have less than 24 semester hours (one year) of college level work, you will be required to live in one of the University's residence halls. Other students may select their own housing including university apartments. At times university housing (both residence halls and apartments) must maintain a waiting list. Therefore, it is necessary that you apply for housing as early as possible. You can apply for housing using the fourth page of the application for admission or by submitting a separate housing application. You should write to University Housing and Food Services, 1406 Asp Avenue, Norman, OK 73019-6091, USA, contact them by phone at (405) 325-2511, or send them e-mail at info@housing.ou.edu concerning the availability of accommodations and other questions concerning on campus housing.

UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALLS
OU's residence hall facilities compare favorably with those of other universities in the United States and are within a few minutes from class by walking or using the University's bus system. Each room in the residence halls is furnished with two twin or bunked beds, two desks and chairs, a chest of drawers, telephone, two towel bars, two closets and a window with blinds. Students must provide their own sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket, bedspread, towels, and toiletry items. Students living in the residence halls have access to study lounges, computer labs, bus services, postal services, game rooms, big-screen TV lounges and laundry facilities. Cable television hook-ups, in-room data connections, and voice mail are available, and you may rent refrigerators and microwave ovens. Resident advisors live in each housing area to coordinate activities, help students with their concerns, and provide support and friendship.

Resident hall students have access to a cafeteria featuring diverse menus at each meal. University Housing and Food Services also operate numerous dining operations across campus. Students may select a meal plan that provides them access to the cafeteria and/or options at any of the other Housing and Food Service managed operations.

The Towers are 12-story buildings featuring air-conditioned suites in which four students share two rooms connected by a bathroom. Unless designated by Housing and Food Services, rooms are double occupancy. A limited number of single rooms are available. Test files, a writing center lab, tutoring, and two computer labs with IBM and Apple Macintosh equipment are conveniently located for students.

Students interested in learning about American culture are encouraged to sign up for the International Floor in the Towers. This floor features students from all over the world and the United States living together. Students are encouraged to travel together, participate in special programs, and utilize the full kitchenette on the floor.

The Quads are composed of four-story halls with up to 200 residents. Most rooms are designated single occupancy and share a large bathroom on each floor. Air conditioning is available in most areas. Students in the OU Honors Program are eligible to live in the air-conditioned Honors House located in the Quads.

UNIVERSITY APARTMENTS
The University has three apartment complexes with one- and two-bedroom apartments available. All include utilities (electricity, gas, and water) in the rent, and all are equipped with telephone and voice mail. Furnishings and cable TV hookups are also available. Rental rates are different for each complex. There is a US $50 deposit required to apply for University apartments.

APPLYING FOR RESIDENCE HALL HOUSING
You may reserve a room in one of the residence halls that best meets your needs by submitting a housing application along with a non-refundable US $30 housing application fee. You must be admitted to OU and have paid the housing application fee before a specific room assignment can be made.

Your first housing payment of US $175 must be submitted when you return your signed housing contract. If you submit the housing application after Feb. 15, submit US $200 to cover both the housing application fee and first payment.

APPLYING FOR UNIVERSITY APARTMENTS
To reserve an apartment in one of OU's three apartment complexes, submit an apartment application with a US $50 deposit. Assignments are made on a first-come basis. Students are encouraged to apply early.

IF YOUR PLANS CHANGE
If you must cancel your residence hall reservation, your written cancellation to OU must be postmarked by June 15 for the fall semester (or Dec. 15 for the spring semester) to avoid obligation for the first payment. If the first payment has been made, cancellation before June 15 will bring a refund of US $175.

ROOMMATES
You may request a specific roommate on your residence hall application, or you may let University Housing and Food Services match you with a roommate with similar interests, based on the information you provide on the housing application.

If you and a friend make mutual written requests to be assigned as roommates, every effort will be made to accommodate the assignment provided your requests are received by June 15. If you want to change your requested roommate, write University Housing and Food Services before June 15. OU will send you a letter after July 15 to tell you about your room assignment and the name and address of your roommate.
