African American Programs & Services Annual Awards

African American Programs and Services honors the many accomplishments of students, faculty, and staff whose work contributes to the mission of our office through our annual awards program. Awards are presented at the annual Black Excellence Ceremony.

Self-nominations and nominations from student peers, faculty, and staff are all accepted. Deadline for nominations is midnight of Sunday, April 10th, 2022.

Achievement Awards

Awarded to students who have excelled in one of the following areas: scholarship, community, leadership, and advocacy. Open to currently enrolled senior, graduate, and professional students at the University of Oklahoma.

  • Scholarship – Honorees show a model for knowledge and academic achievement, striving to learn and discover more.
  • Community – Honorees show a model for compassion, striving to make a difference in their community through service and passionate actions for others.
  • Leadership – Honorees show a model for servant leadership, striving to collaborate and promote growth and well-being for their community.
  • Advocacy – Honorees show a model for intentional action, striving to build and support environments through inclusive, equitable, and socially just practices. 


Legacy Builder Awards

The Legacy Builder Awards honor outstanding senior and graduate students who excel and embody the highest ideals of leadership, scholarship, community, and advocacy. They have contributed to the advancement and betterment of the African American community during their tenure at OU. Open to currently enrolled senior and graduate students at the University of Oklahoma.


"It Takes A Village" Awards

The "It Takes a Village" Awards honor outstanding faculty and staff who have made significant contributions to the African American community at OU. Open to currently employed faculty and staff at the University of Oklahoma.
