Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrates, recognizes, and advocates for Indigenous communities, their histories, and culture.
Indigenous Awareness Month is celebrated in April at the University of Oklahoma. This month-long celebration is the culmination of many signature events that honor the Indigenous community at OU during a time that coincides with the rejuvination of many tribal communities.
The OU Indigenous Royalty Pageant is an annual scholarship pageant that showcases contestants' passions for scholarship, service, and cultural awareness. The pageant takes place each spring and contestants compete in several on-stage categories and an interview with judges prior to the event.
The Spring Powwow is one of the longest running student-led powwows in the nation. The powwow is a space and celebration bringing together many Indigenous nations sharing ancestral cultures and traditions through dancing and singing.
American Indian Programs and Services, in partnership with the OU American Indian Alumni Society, is honored to host our annual American Indian Graduate Celebration. The celebration serves as an essential event during Spring Commencement festivities to honor and recognize the tremendous accomplishments of our graduating students.
