Latino Programs and Services is excited to announce the launch of our Strategic Plan entitled "Somos Oklahoma". Translated in English to "We Are Oklahoma", this bold theme acknowledges the presence of the Latinx/a/o community at the University of Oklahoma. In the last 10 years, our community has more than doubled on campus and continues to be one of the fastest growing.
This strategic plan is a commitment to ensuring that our programs and services respond to the needs of our students. More than just a statement, here is what we commit to:
The Latinx/a/o community is far beyond monolithic and embodies a multitude of identities. We seek to highlight and increase advocacy for Indigenous, Afro-Latino, and LGBTQ+ identities within our community. Additionally, we seek to offer a more global perspective of the many countries and nations that comprise Latinx/a/o identities.
The needs of our community are ever-changing. We seek to engage in intentional assessment to collect feedback and research of the experience of Latinx/a/o students and our programs and services. Data will inform strategies to review, revise, and build programming and services that respond to the needs of our community.
The future is us. We seek to highlight and honor the work of Latinx/a/o students, faculty, and staff on campus through a campaign of story telling. Through sharing our stories and experiences, we hope members of the OU community and perspective students can see themselves in us and be inspired to continue in the life-changing work we engage in.
