Crimson Welcome Week

We are thrilled to host the first Crimson Welcome Week which will provide many virtual and some in-person opportunities for students to engage in community building activities.

Crimson Welcome Week will be 4 fun-filled days, August 15 - 18,  that include activities such as small group time, virtual activities, class tours, and more. Although Crimson Welcome Week ends on August 18th, we will have plenty of programs going on August 19 - 22 for students to participate in.

We have included the most updated schedule below, but students will have access to more information once we complete our guide in Guidebook. 

We will be adding more virtual and in-person events soon! Please continue to check this page for more updated information and the most current list of events happening before the start of school. While this is our current schedule, things are subject to change in line with university guidelines.

August 11, 2020

Virtual Floor Meetings | 10:30AM - 11:30AM

Residence Life Floor Meetings are Saturday, August 15th at 10:30am. Look for a Zoom link from your RA to jump into the chat! Your RA will do an introduction of themselves, go over policies and procedures, and give vital information on living in the residence halls. 

Crimson Welcome Week Opening Session | 11:30AM - 12:00PM

We've prepared a great video for incoming students to watch that will provide them with more information about their next 4 days. Students will hear a welcome from Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. David Surratt and learn more about how to attend events virtually and in-person, guidelines to follow, and how they can meet other incoming students.

Crimson Welcome Week Bag Pick-up | 2:00PM - 5:00PM
Jim Thorpe Multicultural Center
We will be set up outside at a table distributing Crimson Welcome Week bags. Students can come to pick up their bag at any time within this time frame. Each reusable bag includes: Crimson Welcome Week shirt, Class of 2024 shirt, sponsor coupons and information, and more.
*Students will need to pick up their bag before Sunday so they can wear their Crimson Welcome Week shirt for their first small group time.

Dinner will be served on the South Oval where we will have a DJ playing music, a photobooth to snap a first day at Crimson Welcome Week picture, and plenty of space to socially distance. Students can grab dinner with their group or with new friends and find a place on campus to enjoy it.

This session will connect incoming students with the leadership of the College of Arts & Sciences. After this meeting, students will  know who to call and where to go for any help they need in the College of Arts & Sciences. They'll also know about all of the great programs in undergraduate research, study abroad, service learning, and internships offered in the college.

Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture Orientation | 11:00AM - 12:00PM

Students will receive a welcome from Dean Hans Butzer and then divide into discussion rooms by major: Architecture, Construction Science, Environmental Design and Interior Design.

The David L. Boren College of International Studies houses the Department of International and Area Studies, the office of Education Abroad, the office of International Student Services, the OU in Arezzo and OU in Puebla Study Centers, and several international institutes and centers. Visit with academic counselors about the International Studies majors, and visit with Education Abroad advisors about studying abroad!

Mewborne College of Earth and Energy Orientation | 11:00AM - 12:00PM

The Mewbourne College Orientation will give the students a chance to learn all about what the Mewbourne College has to offer. Students will hear from Dean Mike Stice, representatives from the two academic programs (the School of Geosciences and the Mewbourne School of Petroleum & Geological Engineering), plus much more including student life and study abroad. Students will have an opportunity to connect with faculty and staff, plus other incoming Mewbourne College students! While virtual, we are working on an in-person event soon - so stay tuned!

College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences Orientation | 11:30AM - 12:45PM

The A&GS program focuses on the Tools You Need to Succeed if you're majoring in geography, environmental sustainability, geographic information science, or meteorology. Price College of Business Orientation | 12:00PM - 1:30PM

In 2019, business majors reported average starting salaries of about $55,000 with 75% accepting a job within three months of graduation and 13% pursuing graduate education. We will share how our faculty and staff help you achieve your goals and succeed in your chosen fields. You will meet our Dean and members of the faculty and staff representing different aspects of your experience in Price College—including the Center for Student Success, JCP Penney Leadership Program, Study Abroad, Integrated Business Core and the Multicultural Business Program. What you get in Price College is more than an education, it’s an experience. Attending this session will give you an excellent overview of this experience.

Students will head to the stadium to be welcomed in by OU's 15th President Joseph Harroz Jr. OU Spirit will lead students in fun chants and cheers. Students will submit pictures using a hash tag throughout CWW to contribute to the Class of 2024 picture collage.
Although this event will be the closing ceremony of Crimson Welcome Week, we will have many more great events going on throughout the week.

Health and Safety

We want this to be as flexible and tailored to your comfort level as possible. Every student will have the choice to participate in-person or virtually.

We are working hard to keep students healthy and safe, so during Crimson Welcome Week and during their time at OU, students will be required to wear a mask while on campus. We will also be following social distancing guidelines. Student safety is our primary concern.
