School of Community Medicine Undergraduate Summer Internship


Applications for the 2026 Summer Internship are now OPEN!

The OU School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is pleased to offer its Summer Undergraduate Internship for 2026. This immersive program provides students with a firsthand look at community medicine through a blend of lectures, experiential learning, clinical shadowing, research opportunities, site visits, and mentoring activities. Participants will also engage with high school students, as well as current medical students, faculty, and staff, gaining valuable insight into medical education and community-focused healthcare.

   
The Undergraduate Experience is a full time, 6-week internship from June 1st - July 10th. There are also two addiitonal required events; May 15th (1.5 hour afternoon Zoom Session) and May 29th (Full Day Orientation.)

 

The OU SCM Summer Undergraduate Internship Program applications require the following:

Supplemental materials (detailed below)

  • Professional Resume or CV (uploaded to application)

  • Essay - Please submit an essay (300 words or fewer) that explains your interest in community medicine and what you would like to get out of the program.  Your personal statement should include answers to the following questions. (uploaded to application)

  • 1. What will your experiences, talents and strengths bring to the program?
  • 2. Why is a program in community medicine needed?  
  • Request a letter of recommendation from a faculty member and have the faculty member submit your letter of recommendation to our office at tulsascm@ouhsc.edu. The subject line for submission of the letter of recommendation should read as follows: 

  • "Last name, First name - LOR - Summer Internship"

All materials including the online application, resume/CV, and letter of recommendation must be turned in by February 26th. Applicants will be notified by early April if they are chosen to participate. 

Participants must be a current undergraduate student to be eligible (completed Freshman year by June 2026 and on track to graduate a bachelor's program no earlier than December 2026).
