Scott Miller, Ph.D., UCC Director

Brittany Stewart, Ph.D., Clinical Services Director

Dr. Brittany Stewart received her B.S. and M.S. in psychology and Community Counseling, respectively, from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Kansas. Dr. Stewart has trained and/or worked in multiple settings including inpatient and outpatient community mental health centers, the VA, and in several University Counseling Centers. Dr. Stewart is passionate about working with college students as they navigate transitions to and through college. Her clinical interests include identity development, treatment of mood, anxiety and trauma related conditions, and supporting the mental health needs of first-generation college students. Dr. Stewart strives to create a therapeutic space that is inclusive, warm, supportive, and rooted in cultural humility while encouraging and therapeutically challenging clients to work toward attaining the growth they desire while navigating the multitude of stressors they will encounter during their college experiences.

Sheena is a Licensed Health Service Psychologist with a commitment to helping clients achieve their therapeutic goals and improve their psychological well being, whilst providing a safe and inclusive environment. Her past experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings providing individual, group, and family counseling services; psychological evaluations; outreach; and consultation with other professional agencies. Examples of past settings include private practice, private and public schools, inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, and a non profit supportive housing site. She has experience and interest in working with marginalized and underrepresented populations, including the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC individuals, and first generation students.

Sheena enjoys providing counseling services to clients, as well as psychological assessments and evaluations, and supervision to trainees. She aims to provide a warm and engaging therapeutic experience, with a gentle yet direct approach. Sheena strives to be supportive and empathic, and provide honest feedback when collaborating with clients to facilitate meaningful changes they are seeking, and foster self exploration and growth. She uses an integrated and personalized approach to best suit the needs of the client using aspects of CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, and IPT. Sheena has worked with clients on a wide range of presenting concerns, such as mood disorders, navigating life transitions, traumas and challenges, and building healthy and rewarding relationships. Areas of clinical interest include anxiety and mood disorders, academic interventions, adjustment and transition issues, and navigating interpersonal relationships. Sheena currently facilitates anxiety group counseling for campus members at the UCC.

Sheena is committed to our training program with the Oklahoma University Counseling Consortium and greatly enjoys working with our doctoral interns, Master’s interns, and doctoral practicum students. She implements an integrated, flexible, and personalized approach to suit supervisees, including aspects of person-centered and strengths-based supervision. She enjoys working with supervisees to facilitate their growth towards training goals, broaden their depth of clinical experience and competency, and encourage development of their unique professional identity as a clinician.

 

 

 

 

Rachel Gilmore, LPC, Practicum Coordinator

Rachel is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Rachel attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma and received a Master of Education in Clinical Professional Counseling, with an emphasis in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. She completed her graduate internship in a university counseling setting at Oklahoma City University. Previously, Rachel worked for a non-profit in Oklahoma City, providing mental health and substance use services to adolescents and adults. Rachel also has training working with individuals experiencing problematic gambling behaviors. She also has training in working with mood and anxiety disorders. She uses an integrative approach combining relational cultural theory and third wave cognitive behavioral theories in her work with clients. Rachel’s goal is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for clients. Rachel works collaboratively with her clients and strives to be inclusive and genuine in the therapeutic relationship.

Rachel also has an interest in providing support and training to master’s intern and doctoral practicum students as they begin their careers as counselors. Rachel enjoys providing support, encouragement, and education to supervisees. She finds building relationships with supervisees to be a meaningful aspect of her job and works to make the relationship feel safe. She enjoys the opportunity to watch supervisees grow in their counseling skills and gain confidence in their abilities.
