Assessment Guidelines
Based on a student's submitted academic information, The University of Oklahoma may require an ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment, Accuplacer Reading Placement Assessment, and/or English Placement Assessment to determine readiness for various courses.
Math Placement Assessment
The ALEKS Placement Assessment helps determine appropriate math level(s) for incoming and current OU students. The ALEKS Placement Assessment covers material from basic math through pre-calculus and will provide an accurate description of a student’s math skills and a recommended course placement.
Note: Are you an incoming freshman at OU? You will receive your Math Offer after you schedule your New Sooner Orientation day. Click here for Math Offer FAQs. You can also login and see your Math Offer on your New Sooner Orientation registration confirmation page.

Reading Placement Assessment
There are no enrollment restrictions for students with an ACT reading sub-score of 19 or higher and/or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing score of 480 or higher. All incoming OU students with scores that do not meet this threshold are required to take a Reading Placement Assessment to determine whether they must take a developmental reading course before moving on to higher reading level courses.
