About Matt:
Matt joined the University College advising team in 2021. Before joining OU, Matt served as Department Chair and Professor of Mass Communications at Oklahoma City University, where he advised students and taught courses for 23 years, both on-campus and overseas in Singapore. He is a member of the American Academy of Advertising (AAA). Before entering higher education, Matt worked as an Account Executive for two advertising agencies: Ackerman McQueen (Oklahoma City) and DDB Needham Worldwide (Dallas). Matt enjoys watching movies, gardening, traveling, and attending OU football games with his family.
What is your favorite OU tradition?
I enjoy the pre-game show performed by The Pride of Oklahoma marching band before home football games. Listening to fans sing the OU Chant always lifts my spirit and reminds me of family.
What do you like most about working with new students?
Many students are apprehensive about college, especially if they come from small, rural communities. I like helping students adapt to their new environment by serving as a campus resource for them. Having worked in Southeast Asia, I also enjoy meeting international students and answering questions about the American culture.
What is your favorite place on campus?
Oklahoma Memorial Union. The union is a great place to eat lunch and relax. I love sitting in the wood booths in the dining room next to the Sooner Schooner.
