Growing up, Sasha always knew that she wanted to attend OU to study Political Science—and she did! Both Sasha and her husband attended OU after high school and got married the summer between junior and senior year. Sasha graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2018 and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Political Science at American Public University in 2021. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Public Administration. Prior to joining the advising team at OU, Sasha supervised the course assessment office at a local community college where she discovered how much she enjoys working with both new freshman students and students reentering higher education. She and her husband have two dogs and enjoy traveling as often as possible.

What is your favorite OU tradition?

My favorite OU tradition is joining other alumni, students, and fans in singing the OU Chant in the stadium during home games. In the noise and chaos that comes with the always incredible Norman game day experience, it is a moment of unity and serenity before kickoff.

What is your favorite part about working with new students?

The best thing about working with new students is the fresh perspective they bring to the table. Each student comes in with a unique background and story that shapes how the approach their academic pursuits. A positive outlook is often dulled by all-nighters, research papers, and finals weeks, so new students are a breath of fresh air that this campus needs.

What is advice you'd like to give to new students?

Don’t put your educational experience in a box. Your journey will look differently than your friends’, family members’, and peers’ experiences. The beauty is that you get to shape yours into whatever you want it to be. Raise your hand. Ask questions. Chances are, there is someone else who is too afraid to speak up with the same questions. If able, take a class in a field you’ve never studied before. Use this time to piece together your own vision for the future. Embrace your unique experience because there is only one you.
