OU Crawfish Boil 2012

Crawfish Boil Brings Out 600 Hungry Participants

C'est si bon! On June 19th, The University of Oklahoma showed off some of our Southern style with a delicious crawfish boil.

Hosted by the Union Programming Board and OU Summer Session, the event was a wild success. 8,000 pounds of crawfish were ordered, prepared, and served by University Catering, and in a gastronomic feat, all 8,000 pounds were consumed by OU students, staff, and faculty.

Line of People Waiting for Crawfish

"The most memorable part was seeing the line all the way to the fountain behind the Conoco Wing," said OU Summer Session Director Steven Lee. All 600 attendees waited in line to be served their choice of catfish and jambalaya, or a plateful of crawfish, for the braver folk. One attendee was even waiting to go back for seconds. We unofficially named her the Crawfish Champion.

But there was another element to the event. OU Summer Session employees work tirelessly to make sure that OU students know the academic options available to them. "Students should consider taking summer session classes to catch up, get ahead, or stay on track in their major," said Lee. "While taking classes, they should participate in our events because they are always free and fun!" So far, students this summer have participated in a basketball tournament, enjoyed free sno-cones, watched movies in the Union, and attended a performance by comedian TJ Miller.

A full list of events is available at the OU Summer Session website. Contact them by email for any questions you have regarding intersession courses. Coming up next, red dirt musician Stoney Larue will play a free concert on the East Lawn of the Oklahoma Memorial Union at 8 P.M on July 11, 2012.
