OU Board of Regents to Meet in Oklahoma City Dec. 4

The OU Board of Regents will discuss residential colleges and the Rupel J. Jones Theatre at its regular meeting Dec. 4 in Oklahoma City.

NORMAN – Residential colleges and the Rupel J. Jones Theatre are among topics to be discussed by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents at its regular meeting Thursday, Dec. 4, in Oklahoma City.

The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Robert M. Bird Health Sciences Library, 1000 Stanton L. Young Blvd., on the OU Health Sciences Center, with items submitted by Cameron University, followed by Rogers State University and then OU.

The board will consider a recommendation to approve construction costs for site preparation and infrastructure for the residential college student housing expansion project. Funding has been identified, is available and budgeted from private sources, Housing reserves and bond proceeds. The Residential Colleges will be located at the southwest corner of Jenkins Avenue and Lindsey Street. Each of the two Residential Colleges will house approximately 300 students in a mix of room and suite configurations. The colleges will include communal dining, a faculty-in-residence apartment, a storm-hardened shelter, student lounge areas, and other organizational and academic amenities utilizing the “Residential College” community model.

The Regents also will consider a recommendation to incorporate front-of-house improvements and installation of a new air handling unit into the construction cost for the Rupel J. Jones Theatre renovation project. This would include replacement of all existing theatre seating with new theatre seating, replacement of existing carpeting, repainting of existing wall and ceiling surfaces and the installation of new wall finishes, a new grand curtain, and other interior improvements. Funding for the project has been identified, is available and budgeted from bond proceeds and private sources.

The next meeting of the OU Board of Regents is currently scheduled for Jan. 28 and 29 in Lawton.
