At OU, our role as global citizens is an important component of higher education. OU offers study abroad opportunities in over 200 cities and 80 countries across the world, and study abroad programs can last anywhere from two weeks to a full year. OU Cousins

There are currently more than 1,500 international students studying at OU. The OU Cousins program pairs international and U.S. students in a “cousins” relationship that encourages sharing of cultures.

Campus Speakers

OU frequently hosts international scholars and policy makers. Over the past few years, guests have included former President George H.W. Bush, former Vice President Al Gore, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and historian David McCullough. Stemming from our president’s interest in international affairs, these events often focus on the resolution of international issues and students are invited to explore a global perspective by interacting with these guests.

For my study abroad experience, I completed a fall semester abroad in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and a summer semester abroad in Taipei, Taiwan. I enrolled directly in the University Clermont Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand, where I studied French language and European history. The entire experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I greatly improved my French language skills and my self-confidence. In Taipei, I went with two OU professors and seven OU students. We quickly became very close. After returning, the connections I made remained strong. I have even stayed in contact with one of the professors, helped me search for internships!

I loved my study abroad experiences in Italy through the President's Leadership Club and in Costa Rica and Panama through the JCPenney Leadership Program. Traveling in Italy allowed me to see many of the ancient marvels that seem to be everywhere in the country, and I formed friendships with my classmates, which is why I will never forget this experience. Costa Rica and Panama were so fun that I could go on and on and on about it, but again, the most important highlight was the friendships I formed.

OU's campus in Arezzo, Italy felt like a little Norman away from Norman. It was exciting to explore the world while in an environment where everyone expects OU students to be around. This trip took me outside of my comfort zone. Before this, I had never been on a plane before crossing the ocean on a 13-hour flight. We spent many of our days exploring art museums, cathedrals, and new foods. This experience is one I encourage everyone to pursue if at all possible.
