Josh and Kate Woodward

Dear Future Sooner,

You don’t know us yet, but you are one decision away from joining the University of Oklahoma family.

We’re Josh and Kate. We come from Edmond, Oklahoma, we make a mean batch of jambalaya, and we met at OU during our very first week of class. We both majored in economics, completed graduate school in England, and now have four kids. Today, we live and work in Silicon Valley.

But not that long ago, we were standing exactly where you are now. When OU mailed us our acceptance letters, we hesitated. We wondered: Would it cost too much? What major should we choose? Will this university prepare us for a great career? As high school seniors, we felt unsure of our next step.

Looking back, it is clear that OU was the ideal launchpad for us, and those daunting questions resolved themselves in ways we never could have predicted. Here are five reasons why OU was great for us:

We learned how to write, speak, and solve problems. This foundation opened doors to graduate studies at Oxford, where we dined in majestic Gothic halls that reminded us of the Great Reading Room in OU’s Bizzell Library.

We learned how to lead. Running startups, heading sororities, and teaching microeconomics classes at OU built the confidence we use every day.

We learned how to travel. OU’s study abroad programs and travel scholarships took us across Europe and China, expanding our horizons.

We learned how to cheer. We lost our voices every season at the Palace, and we still seek out fellow OU fans in crowded airports and distant restaurants to share a "Boomer Sooner."

We learned how to build lifelong friendships. The people we met at OU, from brilliant classmates to inspiring professors, became some of our lifelong friends. And in our case, one of those college friendships grew into our marriage.

Our lives would have unfolded in a completely different direction had OU not been a part of them. We love this university, and we know you will too.

Come join the OU family!
