Cities Face Double Trouble: Extreme Heat and Air Pollution Cause Increasing Compound Weather Events

New research from the University of Oklahoma reveals that “compound events” — periods when heat wave conditions coincide with high air pollution levels — are becoming more frequent and intense in urban areas across the United States.

OU Junior Leads Study Revealing Urban Climate Model Biases Across U.S. Cities

Liam Thompson, a junior in the University of Oklahoma College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, is the lead author of a new study published in Urban Climate. The study was an assessment of a hydroclimate model’s ability to simulate temperature, dew point and wind speed evaluated against ground-level observations.
