On April 11th, 2015, nearly 6,000 volunteers from the University of Oklahoma went to over 150 different jobsites around the Norman and Oklahoma City metro. These energetic volunteers completed over 20,000 hours of community service on this day, making it the largest single-day community service effort in the state of Oklahoma. Thank you to everyone who made OU’s The Big Event 2015 a success!
Community Through Service with The Big Event
While the University of Oklahoma main campus was serving around Norman and Oklahoma City, there were also The Big Events put on at the OU Health Science center, Schusterman Center, and abroad at OU in Arezzo. Below, OU students and community members put on The Big Event in Arezzo, Italy.
Welcome to The Big Event, the University of Oklahoma's official day of community service. Mission Statement: The Big Event strives to unify campus and community through one big day of service and gratitude.
Operations Staff Applications
Every year, OU students volunteer with The Big Event on one big day of service to serve jobsites in our community who can use our help. Members of the Operations Staff serve as the liaisons between OU and the community. Students will interact directly with people and jobsites in the greater OKC area throughout the spring semester to ensure they are prepared for the big day. Serving on Operations Staff is a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community, meet new people, and become a part of something bigger than yourself!
What makes The Big Event so big? Over 6,000 OU students, faculty, and staff volunteers. Almost 160 jobsites in a 40-mile radius. A budget exceeding $40,000. Ladders, shovels, and paintbrushes to supply a small army. This is all in one BIG service filled day!
The Big Event is OU’s official day of community service and the largest student event on campus— and the largest community service event in the state of Oklahoma. As a member of The Big Event Executive Team, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of the 18th annual Big Event. This is one of the most respected groups of student leaders on our campus, and relative to the size of the event, one of the smallest, which means a great deal of work--- all contributing to a challenging and ultimately rewarding experience.
Are you up for the challenge?
