Outreach

Do you want to make a difference in the community? Outreach is supporting The Big Event by connecting high schools, other colleges, alumni, and international projects with our mission, as well as fostering service throughout the year with tool rental and service grants.

We're here to extend community through service to new places and people and support your service goals outside of "The Day Of" in April.

Alumni Volunteer with The Big Event

OU Alumni across the country and locally volunteer with The Big Event. If you are outside Norman or OKC, contact your alumni chapter or email bigevent@ou.edu to get started. If you are local, use the links below to sign up and we will place you at a jobsite.

The Big Event is Saturday, April 11, 2026 and begins with the Opening Ceremony followed by volunteering from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the jobsite.

Volunteer registration for The Big Event is open and closes March 27, 2026. Create an alumni volunteer group using this link. Register to volunteer for the Big Event as an individual alumnus or with an existing alumni group at this link.

Part of our mission is to make the The Big Event grow. Our current goal is to see The Big Event expand to take place not only on college campuses, but also in high schools. Do you want to see your high school start its own The Big Event? Check out our Outreach Packet by emailing bigevent@ou.edu!

COLLEGE EXPANSION

College expansion aims to further the mission of The Big Event to college campuses across the nation. This includes joint service projects with nearby colleges, encouraging competition in volunteer registrations, and learning from other campuses at One Big Thanks Conference. One Big Thanks Conference invites community service student organizations from across the country to collaborate with one another to improve each school's day of service.

International Expansion

While the University of Oklahoma's main campus serves the Norman and Oklahoma City region, we also serve at the OU Health Science Center, OU in Arezzo, and wherever OU students study abroad. Please contact us at bigevent@ou.edu if you are interested in bringing The Big Event abroad!

Alumni Expansion

The Big Event is grateful for past and present volunteers and alumni. Each year, OU alumni chapters across the nation serve with The Big Event in jobsites in their local communities. Alumni volunteers also receive a volunteer t-shirt through the generous partnership with the OU Foundation. Local OU alumni can be placed at a jobsite by our team and serve with members of the OU Foundation. Our alumni also have access to special events, such as a 25th Anniversary Celebration, joint service projects, and so much more.
