Our Mission
The Department of Anthropology is a vibrant intellectual community that seeks to advance knowledge of and respect for human cultures. Our faculty members have wide-ranging expertise, spanning the sociocultural, linguistic, biological, archaeological, and medical anthropology subfields. We are focused on elevating our national standing by building on existing strengths, through strategic hiring, and by fostering innovative collaborations across units and institutions. Specifically, we seek to make substantive research and teaching contributions to understanding the arc of human experience in its environmental, social, historical, and biological dimensions.
