Profile:

I received my M.A. degree in English from the University of Oklahoma in 1993. While pursuing my M.A. degree, I studied German for four years at the University of Oklahoma and at the Goethe-Institut in Berlin, Germany, in 1991. I started teaching Italian in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma in 1989. I joined the Department of Modern Languages first as a graduate student while finishing my M.A. in English and later as an instructor.

I was born and raised in Italy. I received my undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish, from the University of Palermo, Italy, in 1984.

After my undergraduate degree, I lived in England for three years where I studied for the Cambridge Proficiency Certificate at St. Giles College in Brighton.

My main areas of interest are philology and languages. My M.A. courses were mostly on medieval literature and history of the English language. My undergraduate thesis was in German philology.

At OU I teach beginning and intermediate Italian courses.

Selected Publications:

Translation: Muraro, Luisa. The Symbolic Order of the Mother. Albany: SUNY Press, 2018. Muraro rereads the concept of the “symbolic order” presented by Julia Kristeva and Jacques Lacan from a feminist, political, collaborative perspective. Working closely with the Diotima Collective centered in Milan, Muraro argues for the particular position of motherhood in relation to individual and political subjectivity.

Translation: Negri, Antonio. Books for Burning: Between Civil War and Democracy in 1970s Italy. London: Verso, 2005. Preface (pp. xxxviii–li) and Part II (“Workers’ Party Against Work,” pp. 51–117).
