Joe Ripberger is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (IPPRA) at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma in 2012. Prior to joining the Department of Political Science, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Research Scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies, where he worked with the National Severe Storms Laboratory and the National Weather Service on weather-related research and policy.
His research sits at the intersection of policy process scholarship and applied public policy. He is particularly interested in how individuals and organizations perceive risk, process information, develop trust, and make decisions under conditions of uncertainty. His work examines these questions across several policy domains, including weather and climate, energy, water, public health, and national security. Much of his research uses surveys, experiments, and other quantitative methods and is conducted in collaboration with scientists, policymakers, and practitioners. Joe teaches courses in public policy and research methods, including graduate courses on quantitative methods, survey research, and data visualization.
