Please join us in congratulating OU PhD Candidate Tacey Shurtliff has accepted a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice/Sociology at Wingate University in Charlotte, North Carolina, beginning in Fall 2026. Tacey had an excellent academic job market, with over 11 interviews and multiple job offers. After carefully weighing her options, Tacey chose Wingate for its strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, research, and its support for faculty scholarship. She will continue her research on institutions, adolescence, and inequality, while teaching courses in criminal justice and sociology. Tacey is our student off the market this cycle and joins OU PhD canidates Abby Young, Rin Ferraro, and Kyle Callen from the 2024-25 in landing a tenure track position. These accomplishments occured in what has been among the worst job market year since COVID due to recent political attacks on higher education.
Please join us in congratulating Tacey on this well-earned achievement and wishing her the very best in this next chapter!
