What are Proximity Maps?

Proximity Maps describe the distance "to" or "from" selected map features.

Very often distances give particular locations a significant "advantage" or "disadvantage" in Land use planning.  The proximity to a stream is often very desirable.  If land designers "rate" for closeness to a stream as desirable (therefore increased property value) all buildable land within a certain distance would be considered more valuable.  Knowing how many acres of valuable land on a particular parcel of land is extremely desirable from a planning point of view.
