Pre-Requisite Course Waiver

Use this form to request a request a waiver of an AME pre-requiste course. Be sure to include supporting documentation explaining the reason for the request as listed on the form.

This form should be submitted to AMEstudentservices@ou.edu no later than one week prior to the start of classes each semester (exact date on form).

Course Substitution

Use this form to request substitution of an AME course with an equivalent course that is not part of the AME curriculum. Be sure to include supporting documentation explaining the reason for the request as listed on the form.

Technical, Engineering Science, and Experimental Electives

Students wishing to use courses for technical, engineering science, and/or experimental electives that are not on the list of approved AME electives should first discuss their proposal with their advisor and then submit a 4980 Form for faculty approval.

Courses that have not been approved in advance may not count for elective credit. A maximum of 6 credit hours from variable-credit hour courses (course number ending in 0) irrespective of S/U or letter grading can be used for Technical, Engineering Science, and Experimental electives.

Submit 4980 forms to AMEstudentservices@ou.edu no later than the start of classes each semester.

AME Internship/Co-Op

AME encourages student participation in internships and co-op as an opportunity to gain real-world industry experience as part of the educational experience. Internships and co-ops that meet meet established criteria allow students to receive academic credit.

Please submit the application materials to AMEstudentservices@ou.edu no later than 4 weeks prior to the startu of your internship.

Accelerated Masters Application

The combined BS/MS 5-year programs in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, often times referred to as the accelerated program, is offered for qualified undergraduate students to pursue graduate education in conjunction with the undergraduate degree program in each curriculum.

Students will receive the application form through email in the spring of their junior year and it can be found here as well. The application form should be submitted to the student services coordinator in the AME office no later than February 20th, 2024. Also at that time, the student should have identified an area of study and an adviser(s) for the graduate research project.

Admission Requirements

Must be an undergraduate OU student majoring in Aerospace  or Mechanical Engineering

Must have OU retention and combined retention overall, curriculum, and major GPAs of 3.25 or higher

FE Exam

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination for Engineer Intern Licensure is administered each year by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

College students with 90 hours towards their engineering or related science degree can take the test prior to graduation.

FE Exam Reimbursement

The School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering strongly encourages its students to take the FE Exam prior to graduation. As a demonstration of this support, AME will reimburse $100 of the exam fee to students who take and pass the exam during their academic careers.
