Dr. Shishir Shah is the director of the School of Computer Science and is the university’s first chief artificial intelligence officer. He joins OU after a distinguished tenure at the University of Houston, where he was professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science and founded the Quantitative Imaging Laboratory. With a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, Shah brings to OU a deep and broad background in engineering, computer vision, machine learning, startup leadership, and academic scholarship.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shah has been committed to advancing both fundamental science and real-world impact. At Houston he led research efforts in video analytics, person re-identification, human motion / behavior analysis, biometrics, microscope image analysis, and sensor‐fusion systems. At OU, he is driving a university-wide AI strategy, embedding AI across research, education and industry partnerships, while guiding the school’s growth in education, scholarship and innovation.
