In the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, we firmly believe in nurturing collaborative innovation. 

There is no doubt that collaborative innovation is at the heart of our school’s vision. The future of electrical and computer engineering is tied to our ability to surpass traditional boundaries by working with experts from a variety of disciplines. In recent years, we have been fortunate to team up with other schools and departments such as physics, biology, meteorology, geosciences and medical schools, igniting a wave of positive change in our research and teaching programs.

Here are just a few examples of these interdisciplinary relationships:

• Studying how chaotic grid disturbances impact power grids as more renewable energy sources are added to legacy power grid infrastructure.
• Improving the prediction, sensing, monitoring and reduction of methane and natural gas emissions, thus helping transform the energy industry’s environmental footprint.
• Developing a highly sensitive and responsive detection solution for “forever chemicals” to -create a more efficient method for rapidly detecting and quantifying polyfluoroalkyl substances.

These instances of high-impact research projects exemplify the fruits of our school’s collaborative approach. We know that this cross-pollination of ideas, expertise and resources is the driving force behind innovation in our field, empowering us to confront complex challenges and unveil solutions that may have evaded us in isolation.
