About

Shivakumar Raman is the Morris R. Pitman Professor and Director of the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Over a career spanning more than 35 years, he has established a distinguished record as an educator, manufacturing researcher, entrepreneur, and academic leader dedicated to advancing engineering while developing people and institutions.

His research spans advanced manufacturing, digital engineering, precision metrology, manufacturing systems, and product lifecycle engineering. As Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator, he has secured more than $33 million in externally sponsored research through 47 funded projects, including 14 National Science Foundation awards and numerous additional federal grants. His work has advanced manufacturing science while fostering strong partnerships among academia, industry, and government, and has contributed to technology commercialization through the creation of a startup company.

Dr. Raman has authored more than 100 archival journal publications and has taught and mentored thousands of engineering students. As Director, he has led the growth of the School's academic programs, research enterprise, and national visibility. His professional philosophy is grounded in a simple belief: engineering should matter by advancing knowledge, educating future leaders, and creating lasting impact for industry and society.
