The Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC) is a consortium of 11 academic institutions from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Region 6: The University of Oklahoma (OU is consortium lead), Oklahoma State University (OSU), University of Arkansas (UARK), The University of New Mexico (UNM), Navajo Tech University (NTU), Louisiana Tech University (LTU), Louisiana State University (LSU), The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), El Paso Community College (EPCC), Texas Southern University (TSU), and Texas A&M University Texas Transportation Institute (TAMU TTI).
SPTC was named by the USDOT as the 2023 Region 6 BIL University Transportation Center! With a “sharing to gain” culture and an annual budget of $3 million from the USDOT and dollar-for-dollar match by non-federal sources, SPTC’s research efforts will address the USDOT statutory research priority “D: Under this statutory priority, the research program will address the USDOT strategic goals: “Economic Strength and Global Competitiveness” and “Safety.”
Promote university research, education, workforce development, and technology transfer as essential to the nation’s transportation system.
To raise the profile of university research and education, so that university transportation centers are recognized and called upon for the knowledge creation, innovative research, and education necessary to have the best transportation system in the world.
