I had been involved with community service organizations throughout my first two years at OU, but the opportunity for further involvement arose in the Spring of 2015. After a rigorous application and interview process, I had the good fortune of being accepted to The Oklahoma Group. This organization is a completely student-run, pro bono consultation firm at OU, providing high quality consultations to nonprofit organizations in Central Oklahoma. During my semester as a consultant, I was placed on a team and spent 10-15 hours per week researching and benchmarking best practices in modern nonprofit management. Throughout the semester, my team presented our work to industry professionals, cold-called similar nonprofits, and created a final deliverable that saved our nonprofit countless hours of work and increased their impact in their target community. In following semesters, I have had the opportunity to shape and direct the projects of new consultants, furthering my own personal impact of the community. Truly an unforgettable and valuable experience, The Oklahoma Group is a fantastic opportunity for high achieving students to use their intelligence and creativity to assist a nonprofit (or nonprofits) for years to come.
