The University of Oklahoma’s Data Institute for Societal Challenges hosted a reception for the Hydrometeorology Community of Practice on May 13, 2026, bringing together 60 attendees from across campus. This event was part of the Hydrology/Meteorology Interface Workshop, sponsored by the Cooperative Institute for Severe and High Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO), University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology, Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH), and National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL).
The reception, held at the National Weather Center, provided an informal space for faculty, researchers, and students to connect, exchange ideas, and build collaborations in the interdisciplinary field of hydrometeorology.
Events like this reception are a cornerstone of the DISC Community of Practice initiative, which aims to foster sustained engagement and knowledge sharing among experts in key research areas. By encouraging collaboration across disciplines, DISC supports OU’s broader mission to address pressing societal challenges through innovative research and partnerships.
Reflecting DISC’s mission to foster cross-disciplinary engagement, participants discussed topics ranging from atmospheric processes to water systems and climate challenges. The strong turnout highlighted growing interest in strengthening OU’s hydrometeorology community and advancing collaborative research.
