Summer Study Abroad

University of Oklahoma students can choose from a wide variety of summer study abroad opportunities. The choices range from one-month intensive language courses to faculty-led trips that move from one city to another within a single country or region.  All OU students with a 2.5 combined retained GPA are eligible to apply for a summer program through Education Abroad. Applications from non-OU students will not be considered.

This website contains a lot of information about various options for summer study abroad. After you have reviewed this website, we invite you to come to our office and speak with Alice Kloker, the study abroad adviser for Education Abroad summer programs.  No appointment is necessary to attend her walk-in advising hours (Mondays & Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11:30 am, Thursdays 1:30 - 3:30 pm).  If your class schedule conflicts with Alice's walk-in times, please email or call her at (405) 325-1693 to make a separate appointment.

Types of Programs

There are three kinds of programs administered through Education Abroad that are open to all OU students who meet the application requirements and prerequisites:

OU Journey Programs

Language-learning Programs

English Language Programs

In addition, many colleges run their own programs for their own students.  For more information on these programs, please contact the college directly:

OU College Programs

Finally, there are hundreds of third party study abroad providers that run their own programs.  OU does not manage these programs, and students who attend them do so on an independent basis.  Our office affiliates with a number of study abroad providers, linked here:

How to Apply

An online application for summer 2010 programs will be available in December. OU students must wait until that time to start the application process. All students participating in Education Abroad Summer Programs must submit all application materials by the deadline indicated on the program's website. The deadline for most, although not all, summer programs will be in late February.

Students will be required to obtain a faculty recommendation in order to study abroad. Faculty recommendation forms will be available as part of the online application. Please continue to refer back to this website for further updates on the application process.

Pre-departure Orientation

All students are required to read the pre-departure website and attend a pre-departure orientation before participating in an Education Abroad summer program.  Pre-departure orientations for summer programs will take place in April.
