The Creative Eye: Selections from the Carol Beesley Collection of Photographs in Honor of Michael Hennagin The exhibition runs Nov. 7, 2009 through January 3, 2010. It features photographs from the collection of former OU painting faculty member Carol Beesley. A recent gift to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the collection is a significant addition to the museum's photography holdings. It includes works by many of the most important figures in the history of modern photography. A guest lecture by Jon Burris, ArtSpace at Untitled and OU professor Andrew Strout is at 6 pm Friday, Nov. 6. Following the guest lecture from 7-9 pm is the exhibition's opening reception. Both the lecture and the opening reception are free and open to the public. |

Visiting Artist Stephen Hough: Piano Master Class - The master class consists of students from various Oklahoma universities coming together for a mini-recital and critique by Stephen Hough. From the University of Oklahoma, Angela Triandafillou performs Liszt's Sonetto 104 del Petrarca. Angela Triandafillou, originally from New London, Conn. is a first year Master's student in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at OU. As a graduate assistant, her responsibilities include teaching class piano and applied piano lessons. In 2008 she received her Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College. For the past three summers, she has studied at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N.C. Ms. Triandafillou is a student of Dr. Jane Magrath. The Stephen Hough master class is an educational program of the Oklahoma City Orchestra League and the OKC Philharmonic. The master class is open to all students and the public is invited to attend at no charge. At 8 p.m. the following night, Saturday, November 14, pianist Stephen Hough will be the guest soloist with the OKC Philharmonic for their Classics Season Transformations concert at the Civic Center Music Hall. |

Sutton Faculty Artist Series: OU Symphony Orchestra with the Richard Zielinski Singers. Program begins with Joseph Haydn "Farewell Symphony" followed by the rarely performed and moving work by Luigi Nono "Il canto sospeso" featuring the Richard Zielinski Singers in a work that is a cry from the heart for human compassion in a time of strife. The second half of the afternoon program features the 2009 OU Concerto winner, Mark Billy, clarinet performing the Third Movement from W. A. Mozart's " Clarinet Concerto." The concert concludes with Rimsky Korsakov's Suite from "Le Coq d' Or." PRE-CONCERT ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: 2pm in the School of Music Seminar Room with Jose Canoy OU Italian Studies, Michael Lee OU School of Music and Sarah Reichardt OU School of Music. Sutton Concert Series: Wind Symphony & Symphony Band - Composer, Carter Pann joins the OU Wind Symphony as a solo pianist for the consortium priemiere of his "Concerto Logic for Piano and Wind Symphony." The theme of the performance could be called "Games, Dances and Celebrations" with OU Symphony Band performing a new brilliant fanfare by noted video game composer from Japan, Wataru Hokoyama, as well as exotic dances from Armenia by Aram Khachaturian, the beautiful German art song, "Allerseelen" by Richard Strauss, and a fun-loving rag written for the White House Easter Egg Roll. In addition to Pann's "Concerto Logic" the Wind Symphony will perform "Wedding Dance" from Hasseneh (Wedding) Suite by Jacques Press and American composer John Mackey's newest composition, "Aurora Awakes." |

Sutton Concert Series: CHRISTMAS AT OU presented by the University of Oklahoma Choral Activities area. The event involves all four university choirs: University Chorale, Dr. Richard Zielinski director; University Singers, Dr. Mark Lucas director; University Chamber Singers, Dr. Steven C. Curtis director; and the Singing Sooners, Dr. Richard Zielinski and Dr. Mark Lucas directors. It will be an evening of old favorite Christmas songs, as well as new "takes" on familar favorites such as "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Carol of the Bells," and "Away in a Manger." An audience carol sing-along is planned. The evening will culminate in a 170-voice combined choir in a performance of Craig Courtney's "A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas." This is a family-friendly event that is open to the public with Sutton Series pricing of $8 general adult admission and $5 for all students, OU faculty/staff and senior adults.
