Treasures of Tuscany: Renaissance in Arezzo

Oct. 14, 2023 through Jan. 28, 2024

Nestled on a hillside in the heart of Italy lies Arezzo, Norman’s sister city and home to the university’s OU in Arezzo program. The Tuscan city has been the site of creative innovation for centuries. Between 1470 and 1530, Renaissance artists in Arezzo created magnificent paintings, textiles, and sacred objects for the Catholic church and wealthy patrons. Yet Arezzo's artistic contributions have long been overshadowed by those of nearby Florence. That is, until now. Treasures of Tuscany: Renaissance in Arezzo introduces visitors to Arezzo's major artworks, goldsmithery, textiles, and illuminated books, many of which have never been exhibited outside Italy. Organized by the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Treasures of Tuscany is the first international exhibition devoted entirely to the Aretinian Renaissance with artworks drawn from more than twenty Italian institutions and private collections.
