The Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture is housed in Gould Hall, a $33 million facility that features high-quality maker spaces designed for hands-on exploration, collaboration, and innovation. In addition to Gould Hall, the College offers access to specialized labs across campus, including the 7,000+ square foot Creating_Making Lab. These spaces support material experimentation, design testing, and interdisciplinary learning—giving students the tools to bring ideas to life.
Located just a few blocks from campus, the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture’s Creating_Making Lab (C_ML) is a 7,000+ square foot facility that empowers students, faculty, and staff to bring ideas to life through hands-on making. Outfitted with woodworking bays, a metal shop, laser cutters, CNC routers, 3D printers, and a student-built solar kiln, the lab supports a wide range of fabrication techniques and sustainable practices. Users have access to locally harvested woods, advanced equipment, and collaborative spaces.
The Digital Making Lab provides students with an on-campus facility for Creating_Making. The lab contains lasers and woodworking tools and is located in Room 206 of Gould Hall. You can use the link provided below to sign up for laser cutting training.
Students are required to come into the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture with laptops, but the college also houses a computer lab in Gould Hall. The computer lab has 54 high-powered workstations with dual monitors as well as an instructor station. Some classes are taught in the computer lab, but they are otherwise available to students 24/7. There are also twenty-seven additional lab computers distributed throughout Gould Hall, often located in division studios.
The Kenneth Robson Center for Constructive Learning BIM + Viz Lab is a cutting-edge facility supporting both university and industry partners through immersive visualization, laser scanning, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) services. Opened in 2017 and named for professor emeritus Ken Robson, the lab features a central VR-enabled space where interdisciplinary teams analyze spatial, temporal, and data-rich models of facilities and infrastructure. From creating digital twins via 3D laser scanning to hosting collaborative design reviews in shared virtual environments, the lab fosters deeper understanding and innovation across the built environment.
Innovation @ the Edge is a flexible experimentation and innovation space that provides access to the latest tools used in research, instruction and knowledge creation, including 3D printing tools, custom virtual reality workstations, software and data skill development and microelectronics kits. Any member of the OU community, from any field, is free to prototype concepts or fly-through 3D data sets in this centrally located makerspace in the Bizzell Memorial Library in room 126.
The Tom Love Innovation Hub is a community where students, faculty, and staff at the University of Oklahoma build the skills, network, and resilience to bring their ideas to life. No matter where a Sooner is in their journey, there's a place for them at the I-Hub.
The Tom Love Innovation Hub is open to all OU students, and features a fabrication lab, code lab, visualization lab, legal clinic, collaborative spaces and a cafe!
