Assistant professor of Regional and City Planning C. Aujean Lee recently published the article, “‘Working towards a better future for ourselves’: Neighborhood choice of middle-class Latino and Asian homeowners in Los Angeles” in the Journal of Urban Affairs.
The study examines neighborhood selection and homebuying experiences of Latinos and Asians into coethnic or White neighborhoods using interviews. The findings demonstrate how neighborhood preference is tied to passive and indirect socialization and/or racial biases that influence perception of racial hierarchies and place.
The Gibbs Design in Action Awards (GDAA) program, led by Dr. Wanda Liebermann, has announced its 2026–2027 funded student projects. The initiative supports design and research work that addresses social, cultural, and economic issues in the built environment through collaboration with faculty and community partners.
