Associate professor of Regional + City Planning Dr. Bryce Lowery was recently interviewed by NonDoc about food security in northeast Oklahoma City. The article shares GIS research Dr. Lowery has done related to Oklahoma City’s land use and mapping grocery stores with a quarter-mile walkable buffer, as well as Dr. Lowery’s commentary on factors affecting access to healthy foods in northeast Oklahoma City.
“Oklahoma is built for the automobile. We don’t have a lot of walkable communities or bicycle access yet. It’s getting better,” Dr. Lowery says in the interview. “We have a long way to go to really help people get to food through multiple different ways. People here need a car.”
