Join Dr. Kathryn Anthony2021 AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion Recipient, for a virtual celebration on Wednesday October 27th from 10:30am – 11:30am. Come learn about the life and career of the most recent AIA/ACSA Topaz Laureate and the impact of her four decades of teaching, research, publications, and service.  

Kathryn H. Anthony, Ph.D. is ACSA Distinguished Professor at the School of Architecture, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, the longest-serving female faculty member in the history of the School. She is the recipient of national awards from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award from Chicago Women in Architecture (CWA). 

A frequent media spokesperson on diversity issues in design, Dr. Anthony’s books include Defined by Design: The Surprising Power of Hidden Gender, Age and Body Bias in Everyday Products and PlacesShedding New Light on Art Museum Additions: Front Stage and Back Stage Experiences (co-authored with Altaf Engineer); Designing for Diversity: Gender, Race, and Ethnicity in the Architectural Profession; and Design Juries on Trial: The Renaissance of the Design Studio. She has also testified before the US Congress about gender issues in design.

Current PhD Student Named Community Development Director for City of Shawnee

Gibbs College of Architecture is proud to recognize Petya Stefanoff, who is pursuing her doctorate in the Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) program, has been appointed the new role of Director of Community Development for the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma. She joined the city in 2024.

IQC Director Named Finalist for 2026 PROSE Award

Gibbs College of Architecture is pleased to announce that Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D., associate professor in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design and director of the Institute for Quality Communities, has received national recognition for her book Model Schools in the Model City. The book has been named a finalist for the 2026 the PROSE Awards.

Gibbs Professors Win National Studio KIN Pitch Night Competition

Gibbs College of Architecture Regional + City Planning Professor of Practice Vanessa Morrison and Associate Professor of Architecture Deborah Richards’ Open Design Collective received top honors at the inaugural BlackSpace Urbanist Collective Studio KIN Pitch Night Competition, held last month in Brooklyn, New York City.
