René Peralta, a lecturer in the Division of Architecture, is invited to speak at an upcoming virtual event as part of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023 CityX Venice Virtual Pavilion. CityX Venice is a digital series of exhibitions featuring the works of architects, artists and designers from around the world. This year’s digital exhibition was organized by Tom Kovac, the 2023 curator of CityX.

This year’s theme, The Laboratory of the Future, provides an imaginative glimpse into the future of Architecture and the built environment. Peralta is a part of the virtual exhibition Planetary Frontlines, organized by creative director Pragma, where he showcased his new short story “Border Astronaut.” His story employs AI as a technique and medium to delve into the future of the US/Mexico border region, presenting it in a surreal and dreamy perspective.

As part of a collaborative effort with Gibbs College, Peralta is also participating in the exhibition’s conversation series, Where & when is Latin America? This conversation will explore the future of Architecture and design in Latin America. According to the event organizers, “Latin America expands into the planet through knowledge, techniques and resources. In other words, the future of the planet is the future of Latin America. When we question where and when Latin America begins and ends, what are the implications for Architecture and design?”

Peralta will be joined by Antonia Burchard from Ecosia, Zenobio Almeda and Ygor Anario from Placet ExpeririCesar Adrian Lopez and Pragma. The event will take place virtually on Friday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendance is free, and anyone is welcome to attend. RSVP for this event.
