OU Student Journal Earns 2026 Douglas Haskell Award

Telesis, a journal produced by students in the University of Oklahoma Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture, has earned first place in the 2026 Douglas Haskell Award for Student Journals for its seventh volume, Unfold.” This marks the fourth time the publication has earned recognition for excellence in student architectural journalism. It shares the honor with student journals from Columbia University, University of Michigan, and Cal Poly.

Presented by the Center for Architecture in New York City, the Douglas Haskell Award for Student Journals recognizes outstanding student publications that explore architecture, planning, and related disciplines while encouraging thoughtful critique and dialogue among future professionals.

“Unfold” is presented in a custom box.

Telesis “Unfoldexplores the theme of unfolding, inviting readers to reflect on the processes, stories, and discoveries that shape architecture and design. Rather than focusing solely on finished forms, the volume highlights sketches, drafts, conversations, and moments of exploration that reveal the human side of the creative process. Through this lens, the student editors encourage readers to consider the ideas and experiences that shape architecture long before a project is complete.

Telesis was first published at the University of Oklahoma in the 1970s before being discontinued after several years. The journal was revived during the 2018–2019 academic year. Prior to this year's recognition, Telesis received the Douglas Haskell Award for Design Against (2019), Isolation (2022), and The Essence (2025).

Leading the seventh volume of Telesis is Editor-in-Chief Felipe Flores, a Ph.D. candidate in the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture. He is joined by Managing Editor Trey London, an undergraduate architecture student, and Associate Editor Yousef Haghighi, a Ph.D. student in the college. The journal was developed under the guidance of faculty advisor Dr. Angela Person, associate professor of Architecture.

Additional student editors of Telesis “Unfold” include Terry Chisimba, Kayt Malone, Albert Rogers and Chandler Thompson.
