A warm welcome to IPPRA’s Director’s Blog! We are the University of Oklahoma’s Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (IPPRA), an interdisciplinary team with decades of experience in addressing public policy challenges surrounding energy, the environment, education and national security, as well as challenges posed by extreme weather and the changing climate. Our team is comprised of dozens of faculty and professional staff researchers, a research operations team, post-doctoral research fellows, and students ranging from undergraduate fellows to advanced doctoral candidates.
Here at IPPRA, we build partnerships and conduct research by integrating public policy scholarship with the physical and engineering sciences to increase human well-being, improve our social choice infrastructure, and enhance resilience by addressing complex public policy problems and creating opportunities that span natural, technological, and social systems. Our institutional culture is grounded in transdisciplinary thinking and collaboration -- we emphasize finding new ways to bridge basic and applied research and focus on bringing fundamental knowledge to bear on urgent public problems. As a cross-cutting foundational Institute under the OU Vice President for Research and Partnerships’ Strategic Research Framework, IPPRA’s work contributes across OU’s four strategic areas of research, focused on grand challenges in aerospace, defense, and global security; environment, energy, and sustainability; the future of health; and society and community transformation.
Particularly because our work is inherently collaborative, spanning traditional academic research and applied collaborations, we are excited to create new outward-facing spaces to disseminate our work and open conversations that offer possibilities for new collaborations and ideas. This blog intends to be one of those outward-facing platforms and will be used by our team to post brief research reflections, share new publications of interest, and highlight some of our research partners and both our academic and applied collaborations.
We hope this blog provides you with a stronger understanding of our research products, our lab culture, and lets you get to know the IPPRA team better.
