why Exchange?
Immediately after the November 2006 ice storm damaged our existing mail service, OU IT formed a Student Mail System Project Team to review solutions for replacing the damaged OU Mail system, including 3rd party mail hosting (such as Gmail).
We selected Microsoft Exchange after comparing features, cost, implementation timeline, integration with campus systems, and security.
The following outlines our reasons for selecting Exchange:
- Microsoft Exchange 2007 offers stability, reliability, first class support, and features unmatched by other email services.
- Exchange offers a user friendly resource that is compatible with most popular mail clients (for Windows and Mac).
- As it is used extensively in corporations worldwide, Exchange will prepare students for electronic communications in the workplace.
- OU IT has operated a Microsoft Exchange system with over 10,000 faculty and staff mailboxes since 2004.
- On-site expertise, proven security, and compatibility with campus systems cemented our decision to implement Exchange.
- As for features, Exchange can help students organize messages, manage deadlines, and collaborate with other students, faculty, and staff. Learn more.
