To: All Faculty/Staff OU Mail users Subject: OU IT – Important Email Announcement ***** IMPORTANT: OU MAIL CHANGES BEGINNING AUGUST 1 ***** This Fall, OU IT will replace the OU Mail system with Microsoft Exchange 2007. The age of the current system, combined with hardware damage sustained during November’s ice storm, require that we implement a new email solution. ********************** WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU On August 1, OU IT will begin transferring mailboxes to Exchange. This process could take much of the Fall semester to complete due to the number of OU Mail accounts. To minimize potential in-semester disruptions, OU IT will: * Retain your current email address * Notify you approximately 24 hours prior to your transfer * Transfer existing messages and folders (minus deleted items and junk) * Ensure that no existing or incoming mail is lost during transfer * Provide OU Mail service until your Exchange account is active * Allow access via the web or mail clients (POP/IMAP) for Windows and Mac * Publish project status and support at http://exchangeit.ou.edu * Communicate additional user impacts by email and on the website * Offer training and support services For more information, contact OU IT at (405) 325-HELP, http://support.ou.edu, or any of our three Service Centers: Felgar 300, Couch w146, or Gould 264. ********************** WHY EXCHANGE 2007? Microsoft Exchange offers proven reliability, improved security, seamless integration with campus technology, and tons of great features, including: * Calendaring and other collaboration tools * Organizational resources: follow ups, reminders, tasks, and categories * Streamlined global directory * Customizable spam filtering * Communication with mobile devices (get email on your phone) * User friendly layout: visible folders, message list, and viewing pane.
