NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma has become a member of the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute, a national network that solves the biggest challenges facing cybersecurity in the U.S. manufacturing and supply chain industries.
Membership in CyManII, coordinated through OU’s Data Institute for Societal Challenges, Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute and Gallogly College of Engineering, grants OU researchers access to the nation’s most advanced national laboratories in advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity – Idaho National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories – and state-of-the-art equipment, software and facility infrastructure to test next-generation technologies.
“OU’s work in secure advanced additive manufacturing and supply chains will be accelerated through this partnership with CyManII researchers,” said David Ebert, director of the Data Institute for Societal Challenges. “This is also a great opportunity to expand our collaboration network and impact nationally.”
OU manufacturing and supply chain experts can design and test state-of-the-art curricula and participate in intellectual property-protected projects that define, test and integrate technologies.
CyManII membership also grants the university early access to the next generation of cyber-literate talent, advanced first-hand briefings on key technological breakthroughs and advanced access to intellectual property and options for accelerated implementation into current platforms.
This partnership will allow the University of Oklahoma to expand on its already established programs of supply chain resiliency, global cybersecurity and defense initiatives, and artificial intelligence advancements.

Three University of Oklahoma graduate students have been named winners of the 2025 Three Minute Thesis competition, which challenges participants to explain their research in three minutes to a non-specialist audience.
Sarah Sharif, a researcher with the University of Oklahoma, has been awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to create innovative light detectors that pick up mid-wave and long-wave infrared signals at higher temperatures than previously considered achievable.
A team from OU and WVU recently earned a five-year, $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study how concept cigarillos influence the potential for addiction. The results will be used to inform the FDA’s impending flavor ban on cigar products and could have wider-reaching implications for other tobacco products that come in flavors, such as e-cigarettes and tobacco-free nicotine pouches.
