NORMAN, OKLA. – Miloš Savić has been named as dean of the University of Oklahoma College of Professional and Continuing Studies. Pending OU Board of Regents’ approval, Savić will assume the role on March 22.
Savić, who is a professor in the David and Judi Proctor Department of Mathematics, also serves as the director of the OU Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity and co-director of the First-Year Research Engagement Program in the Honors College.
“Throughout his career, Dr. Savić has been incredibly devoted to mentoring students and to championing undergraduate research. We are confident the PACS community will continue to thrive under his leadership,” said OU Norman Senior Vice President and Provost André-Denis G. Wright.
In 2012, Savić helped create the Creativity Research Group that explores fostering mathematical creativity at the undergraduate level. He has served on the board of the International Group for Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness and the editorial board of the Ball State Undergraduate Mathematics Exchange and has been a guest editor of the Journal of Humanistic Mathematics.
He co-authored the 2022 book, “Mathematical Creativity: A Developmental Perspective,” and has a forthcoming book titled New Directions for Mathematics Education Research on Proving: Honoring the Legacy of John and Annie Selden. He has co-authored numerous articles and conference proposals on mathematical creativity, undergraduate research and math pedagogy; written several book chapters; and given invited talks on similar subjects. He also led the OU group in a seven-year National Science Foundation-funded project involving more than 120 faculty at 26 institutions across the country.
Savić is the OU director for the Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program, a consortium of 12 higher education institutions dedicated to increasing STEM degrees among underserved students.
Savić earned his doctoral and master’s degrees in mathematics from New Mexico State University and his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Ball State University.

Three University of Oklahoma graduate students have been named winners of the 2025 Three Minute Thesis competition, which challenges participants to explain their research in three minutes to a non-specialist audience.
Sarah Sharif, a researcher with the University of Oklahoma, has been awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to create innovative light detectors that pick up mid-wave and long-wave infrared signals at higher temperatures than previously considered achievable.
A team from OU and WVU recently earned a five-year, $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study how concept cigarillos influence the potential for addiction. The results will be used to inform the FDA’s impending flavor ban on cigar products and could have wider-reaching implications for other tobacco products that come in flavors, such as e-cigarettes and tobacco-free nicotine pouches.
