NORMAN, Okla. – Staff at the University of Oklahoma’s Division of Marketing and Communications (MarComm) have been recognized by two professional associations for their work on two major projects.

MarComm won an Award of Excellence for their OUxSEC Launch campaign and an Award of Merit for their OKC Bombing 30th Anniversary commemoration at the American Marketing Association – Oklahoma City Chapter’s Marketing Excellence Awards.

The department also won an Upper Case Award for the OUxSEC Launch campaign and an Award of Excellence for the OKC Bombing 30th Anniversary commemoration at the Public Relations Society of America – Oklahoma City Chapter’s Upper Case Awards.

Both campaigns followed MarComm’s centralization; the division now houses the university’s Strategic Marketing, Creative Services, Social Media, Web Development, Internal Communications, University Experiences, Media Relations and Publications teams all under one roof.

To highlight OU’s entry into the Southeastern Conference in 2024, MarComm designed the OUxSEC campaign and showcased the move’s influence across media platforms. The team’s work on the project included building a landing page on the university’s website for users to explore a variety of content, creating a video recap of the OU campus’s launch-day activities and helping produce a podcast featuring OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, among other tasks.

April 19, 2025, marked the 30th anniversary of the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. MarComm created the anniversary campaign as part of OU’s mission to recognize the bombing’s effect on the community and honor those impacted. The team’s work included creating a memorial landing page, interviewing community members willing to share their stories and memories and coordinating with OU colleges to host a week of events, such as a Survivor Tree Seedlings planting and a panel discussion with media who covered the 1995 event.
