For nearly two decades, Amber Rowe has built a successful career at Teleflora, where she currently manages two divisions, the International Division and the Flower Buyer Division. With her work weeks usually encompassing from 45 to 60 hours, and family responsibilities, Amber knew that PACS was one of the only ways she could go back to school.
Graduating from high school, Amber attended the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) for 1-2 years, before moving to New Mexico, where she continued her studies. Over the years, her educational journey was described as “on and off” where she achieved her Associate degree and Associates of Applied Sciences degree in Sign Language. Although she had originally planned to pursue a career in her passion, sign language interpretation, a promotion at Teleflora shifted her professional path. And as leadership opportunities continued to grow, Amber placed those plans on hold and focused on advancing her career.
After years of putting her education on hold, she decided in 2024 that it was time to return to the classroom. Her husband, who works for the University of Oklahoma, had introduced her to the idea of PACS and getting an online degree. Both deciding to return to school, Amber enrolled in the Business Administration program, building upon years of leadership experience.
Her experience with PACS exceeded her expectations.
“I was pleasantly surprised with the levels of professionalism from both lecturers and the college alike,” Amber had remarked “Whenever I reached out, I felt as though my questions were being answered in a clear, personable and professional way.”
Like many adult learners, balancing school with work and family requires much sacrifice. With determination, Amber made it a priority to complete her coursework in the late hours at 10 pm up until 3 am, or on weekends.
“I didn’t sleep; I did my classwork whenever I was able to do so”. Despite these challenges, she credits having a strong support system for helping her succeed.
One of her favorite aspects of PACS was connecting with students who had similar experiences, and navigating learning with different life circumstances.
“I also enjoyed getting to meet other professors and their teaching styles,” she said. Among those professors, Dr. Coleman Patterson stood out as her favorite.
Outside of work, Amber volunteers at her local church, and as an interpreter on the weekends. She is also the Youth leader for the Youth Ministry. Looking towards the future, she plans to combine the knowledge gained through PACS with her years of professional leadership experience as she pursues opportunities beyond the private sector.
