Overview and Learning Objectives

This course is designed to help future managers understand and use human resource compensation systems. Students will be exposed to theories from labor economics and psychology that guide the design and operation of modern compensation systems, including wage structures, wage levels, merit pay systems, and benefits. A partial list of compensation practices covered include job analysis, relevant legislation, job evaluation systems, wage and salary surveys, and merit pay systems, and benefits administration.

FastCat:

Group project performing first two phases of FastCat case.

Grades:

Grades will be based on student performance on three Midterm Exams and the FastCat case project. Each will contribute equally (i.e., 25%) to the final course grade.

Any student in this course who has a disability that may prevent him or her from fully demonstrating his or her abilities should contact me personally as soon as possible so we can discuss accommodations necessary to ensure full participation and facilitate your educational opportunities.

MP3 Files:

On an experimental basis, Dr. Russell will record lectures and post them as MP3 files each week (by Friday at 5:00 pm).  You will receive an "invitation" to a DropBox folder early next week, where I will load the mp3 files shortly after each class.  This is something I do on my own, so please be patient with any gliches in the process.
