On December 23, 2024, the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) was signed into law, allowing for greater transparency and education on the topic of hazing.
In summary, this legislation requires institutions of higher education that accept federal funding to publicly report hazing incidents on their campus and disclose these incidents in their annual security reports.
In addition, institutions of higher education must offer a comprehensive, research-based program to prevent hazing, which must include information on hazing awareness, hazing prevention, and the IHE’s current campus policies on hazing.
Hazing is illegal in the state of Oklahoma. Hazing is prohibited under Title 21, Section 1190 of the State of Oklahoma Statutes.
