History of "Bouga"--Short Version

It so happened in the Summer of '96, Brothers William Davis (#1138) and Gene Leiterman (#1114), were camping at Lake Thunderbird. During their revels, Brother Davis, clad only in underwear and mud, leapt from a small cliff with a small stick in hand and proclaimed "Bouga Bouga." Thus, the original Bouga Bouga Stick was born. The stick was small, only about 3 feet in length, and it adorned the wall of Brother Leiterman for many moons. It was even decorated for the Christmas season.

In the Spring of '97, Brother Boehm (#1152) was visiting Lake Tenkiller where he found a new Bouga. This piece of driftwood was about 7 feet tall and became the successor of the original Bouga. Since this stick was too tall for most purposes, like transportation, Bouga was cut down to a more manageable size by the handle of a claw hammer.Brother Stephen Davis (#1163) then took Bouga and burned images into him: a picture of Bohumil Makovsky, the Kappa Kappa Psi Creed, the Fraternity Crest, signatures of the members in the chapter at the time, and various other important symbols.

Bouga was also given a feather to symbolize his Oklahoma heritage. Brother Stephen Davis, his Herculean efforts completed in a single night, presented the Bouga Bouga stick to the Brotherhood, and it instantly became the chapter mascot. It was decreed that Bouga Bouga be entrusted to the Sergeant-At-Arms for the purposes of calling meetings to order and maintaining the behavior of the Brotherhood. Before every meeting, the Sergeant (or any other noteworthy dignitary or past member) calls the meeting to order by the call "BOUGA, BOUGA," to which the chapter replies, "SHHHEEEEET."

Bouga has made many travels since then, including four district conventions and several area workshops:

Angelo State University - "Wild Wild West" (1997)
University of Arkansas - "Head for the Hills" (1998)
Univeristy of Houston - "Service Above and Beyond" (1999)
Univerisity of Oklahoma - Oklahoma Area Workshop (1997-1998)
East Central University (1999)

Langston Univrsity - SWD Convention (2002)

It so happened that at the District Convention hosted by Angelo State University, Bouga became aquainted with Zegret, the chapter mascot of Epsilon Kappa. The two immediately became friends and in the following year, Bouga presented Zegret with Zegrette, a miniature version of Zegret. Unfortunately, Zegrette has become rebellious and has not been seen by the Delta or Epsilon Kappa chapters for years.
